The World Equestrian Games eventing competition in Tryon was widely considered a huge success, which was much needed after the Games got off to a terrible start with the endurance competition having to be cancelled.
Britain celebrated claiming both team and individual gold, with Ros Canter’s clear showjumping round on Allstar B securing team victory as she became the new world eventing champion.
The team competition saw a number of the favourites fall by the wayside, with Ireland taking silver ahead of France, with Japan fourth. The remaining Olympic qualifications went to Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Ireland’s Padraig McCarthy moved up from seventh after cross-country to claim the individual silver medal with a clear show jumping round on board Mr Chunky.
Overnight leader Germany’s Ingrid Klimke dropped from gold to bronze when SAP Hale Bob OLD had the final fence down.
