The World Equestrian Games dressage competitions at Tryon 2018 saw the world’s best riders competing for glory, with the team medals split between Britain, the USA and Germany, although Sweden came very close to squeezing on to the podium.
Germany stood comfortably at the head of affairs in gold, with the home side having to settle for silver. Britain and Sweden had a close tussle for bronze, but a great ride by Charlotte Dujardin and Mount St John Freestyle saw Britain claim the bronze medal.
The remaining qualification spots for the dressage at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics went to the Netherlands and Spain.
While all four British riders qualified for the grand prix special individual test, Spencer Wilton withdrew Super Nova II, as the horse wasn’t feeling 100% after getting very excited during the team prize giving.
Charlotte scored a personal best of 81.49% with the nine-year-old mare, who was performing only her third grand prix special in competition. This secured the British star the individual bronze. Carl Hester scored 77.22% for ninth place with Hawtins Delicato, while Emile Faurie and Dono di Maggio scored 70.38%.
The grand prix freestyle, which had been due to take place on Sunday, was initially postponed until the Monday due to Storm Florence, then cancelled when it became clear that logistics were going to make it impossible for the competition to be held on the same day as the dressage horses were to fly home.
