6 young showjumpers to get excited about
Horse & Hound picks out the young stars of the showjumping world to look out for this season
Spencer Roe was the youngest member of the British showjumping squad at the World Equestrian Games (WEG) 2014. The 21-year-old is described as an old head on young shoulders whose double clear in the final round of the Nations Cup in Dublin sealed his place on the team.
The international showjumper is based South Hykeham, Lincolnshire and has represented Team GB for the last three years. He has ridden competitively since the age of 12 on ponies. After leaving school at 16, he decided to pursue his riding as a career.
He spent two years riding and grooming for Andrew Saywell, before moving to the Billy Stud where he trained under William and Pippa Funnell for a further two years. He then moved back to Lincolnshire to set up his own yard.
