‘It just made me more hungry for the win’ — show producer Katy Marriott-Payne on setting two native breed records
“I always say that it takes three goes at Olympia before you even have any idea of how to do it...”
Katy Marriott-Payne is a leading producer of native ponies. She has been producing at top level since she was 20 years old.
Based in Northamptonshire, Katy Marriott-Payne has won the M&M supreme ridden accolade at Olympia on three separate occasions.
She has broken two breed records at Olympia, her first in 2004 with the then five-year-old Exmoor mare Stowbrook Jenny Wren who was the first of her breed to scoop the title.
Her 2016 victor was the Welsh section A stallion Uphill James Fox, another record breaking breed representative. In 2017 she netted the accolade on Welsh section B Cadlanvalley Sandpiper.
She landed her first overall native ridden pony championship at Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in 2016 riding Welsh section B stallion Cadlanvalley Buzby.
In 2021 she won the Heritage supreme at the Royal International (RIHS) riding Dartmoor pony Salombe Starehole Bay, the same year she won three M&M ridden pony of the year finals at HOYS on three different ponies.
