Joe Clee tops brilliant year at British Showjumping awards
The Belgium-based British rider picked up two accolades at the British Showjumping awards
Joe Clee, 37, is based in Belgium and has been riding for owners Ludwig and Jasmin Criel for eight years.
Joe began his career working as a stable jockey at the Brendon Stud.
Joe first represented Great Britain at the 1996 European Showjumping Championships riding Xtra. Joe won the Horse of the Year Foxhunter Final in 2002. He first represented Great Britain on a Division 2 Nations Cup team in 2012, before competing Division One in 2013 and has been a mainstay on the team ever since.
Joe made his first senior championship appearance for Great Britain at the World Equestrian Games last year, riding stallion, Utamaro D’Ecaussines. Originally from Yorkshire, he moved to Belgium over 10 years ago where he lives with his wife and three children. Joe represented Great Britain at junior level at the European Championships in 1996. Uta and Joe have been part of the British team at the past three Nations Cup events, winning in Rotterdam.
The British showjumper took stallion Utamaro D’Ecaussines to the World Equestriam Games (WEG) 2014.
Joe has grabbed the showjumping world’s attention this year, with a number of Nations Cup team performances.
