The right pair of breeches can make a huge difference to your riding. Feeling comfortable in a breathable, well-fitting garment that has both stretch and grip means you can just focus on giving your best performance in the arena — or simply enjoy the pleasures of hacking and being at one with your horse.
This is why Derby House always takes great care in crafting its jodhpurs and breeches, ensuring the best possible fit. Take the new Autumn & Winter 2015 collection, which comes in the accessible Classic, the high-spec Pro and the luxury Elite ranges to better meet the needs of each individual rider.
“We are very proud of our new collection,” says Martin Turley, Commercial and Operations Director at Derby House. “Our product team has spent the last three years developing and testing the new range of Classic, Pro and Elite jods and breeches so we can offer the most sophisticated, comfortable, hardwearing fabrics and superb technical features to suit every discipline, every body shape and every pocket.”
All three ranges not only offer a wide selection of everyday and competition breeches in a variety of colours, but also feature breathable, stretch fabrics, anti-rub stitching and an improved fit — all at the same excellent value that Derby House is known for.
Some of the Pro breeches also have full seats made of Clarino, a soft, supple, breathable fabric that looks and feels like suede but is stronger, more durable and waterproof.
In the past 18 months, however, ground-breaking advancements have swept through equestrian sport clothing, and this has allowed Derby House to add to its breeches many technical features that were once the preserve of the world’s top competitors. Enter the company’s Elite range, which combines the latest in performance technology with an exceptional fit and a choice of stylish designs.`
The Elite breeches are made of a woven, breathable fabric that stretches in all four directions, adjusting to your body while retaining its shape. This means perfect fit, no rubbing and no restrictions, giving you complete freedom of movement for the ultimate comfort.
Three of the Elite models — the Alderbury, the Tolham and the Larkhill — also feature Clarino seats for grip, durability and protection, while a fourth, the Kynton, has super-responsive gel pads at the knees for maximum traction. These high-tech patches grip the saddle like an adhesive, helping you improve the precision of your movements — which is ideal for showjumping.
“The gel knees are great and the waist fits perfectly,” says Derby House customer Isla Quayle, who bought a pair of Kynton in white. Another customer, Taylor Denness, adds: “They are very comfortable and wash well.”
Sleek and streamlined, the Kynton design also come with quick-release, fully adjustable touch-and-close ankle fastenings. The other three Elite models have smooth Lycra ankle panels that mould to your body, preventing chaffing, wicking away moisture and fitting seamlessly into your boots — no more struggling, hopping and heaving to slide out your legs!
Style options range from the clean, sophisticated design of the Larkhill model, which was created with dressage in mind, to the classic formal elegance of the Tolham breeches and the Alderbury’s fashionable denims with jean-style pockets, belt loops and gold rivets.
“They look very nice on and have a good fit,” says Derby House customer Chelle Mullen, who bought a pair of Alderbury denims in navy.
So whether you want traditional competition-wear or prefer a trendy, contemporary look, Derby House Elite has the perfect top-performance breeches for you.
