Tim Stockdale was born on 12 August 1964 in Worksop, Nottinghamshire. On leaving school, he spent a year at Mike Saywell’s yard, before moving on to ride for Graham Fletcher.
In 1990, he set out on his own, stabling six horses at a yard rented from Lutz Meyerding and achieving success with horses like The Frog, Mighty, McGuigan, Santa’s Echo, Interview, Glenwood Springs and Wiston Bridget.
Since 1997, he has run a yard in Roade, Northamptonshire with his wife Laura, with whom he has two children. He has been sponsored by Fresh Direct since 2002.
In 2000, Tim was involved in the Channel 4 series, Faking It! He returned to TV in 2006 BBC Sports Relief programme, Only Fools on Horses, training celebrities to compete in a televised show jumping competition.
Also in 2006, Tim was awarded an honorary degree from Nottingham Trent University for services to equestrianism.
Tim fulfilled his long-standing ambition to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games in 2008. This achievement was all the more impressive as his Olympic ride, Fresh Direct Corlato has returned to top flight jumping after suffering a serious injury.
Away from horses, he supports Sheffield Wednesday football team and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.
