Teenage girl dies in riding accident at show centre

  • Investigations are under way after a 13-year-old girl died while competing in a showjumping class at Eglinton Equestrian Centre, Co Londonderry.

Hannah Wiley, from Artigarvan in Co Tyrone, was killed on Friday evening (17 August).

Officials from Derry City Council and the Health and Safety Executive are investigating.

The family’s vicar, the Reverend Mark Russell of Leckpatrick Presbyterian Church, said the local community was shocked by Hannah’s death.

“She was a great child,” he said. “A very quiet girl, so full of fun and energy and very committed to everything she was involved in.”

Eglinton Equestrian Centre did not wish to comment.
