John and Michael Whitaker prove on winning form in Spain as the Hickstead Derby meeting approaches
John and Michael Whitaker enjoyed a highly successful trip to the La Coruna CSIAin Spain, where they were placed in every class they contested.
As well as frequent top three results on Lactic, John gained an emphatic 3.5sec victory in a jump-off class on his Hickstead Derby hope, Steps Helsinki, while Michael was in equally good form.
He enjoyed several good placings on Haddon House Carlson and won a two-phase competition with Landfurst, while Ann Bedford’s Handel II continued his steady return to the top level.
The stallion finished sixth in a major class and jumped double clear to take third place in the grand prix, in a time just 0.55sec behind the winners, Argentina’s Martin Dopazo and El Caprichio Furka Du Village.
