Britain’s riders were quickly into the winning groove in Vejer de la Frontera. Laura Renwick won two big tour classes with Perfect and was fifth in the small grand prix on Limelight De Breve. She also headed a British one-two-three in day two’s two-phase six-year-old class on Beluga and finished second on Kirsch. Young rider Kerry Grimster took third place with Roller Coaster.
In Thursday’s young horse finals, Laura was third on her five-year-old Oxford De Breve before winning the six-year-old class with Beluga . British-based Irishman Ivan Dalton won the five-year-old class on Variant.
Honours in the small grand prix went to Ireland, courtesy of Billy Twomey on Wertherroschen, while Spanish rider Jesus Garmendia scored a popular grand prix victory with Maddock. William Funnell enjoyed a win on the final day when Billy Birr beat his team-mates Sian Price (Rambo III) and Jo Pay (Randi’s Gold) in a speed class.
There were four British small tour wins. Tony Pearson scored two of them in speed and two-phase classes on Tender Moment, while Sharon Quigley and Lugana Beach picked up a speed class and young rider Laurie Bartram and Man About Town galloped to victory in a two-phase.
