Medals for British junior and young rider showjumpers at European Championships

  • The juniors had the best of the British team success at the showjumping European Championships in Vejer de la Frontera in Spain winning team silver on Friday (19 July).

The team consisting of Emma O’Dwyer on Miss Tonic, Jake Saywell on Farinelli Van De Zeshoek, Laura Robinson on Cree Cruiser and Jessica Mendoza on Spirit T finished on a score of 12pen — just 4pen behind the Swiss team, who took gold.

Chef d’equipe Corinne Bracken said: “It was a nail-biting class with no-one knowing the result until the very last horse in the competition jumped.

“The support that we’ve had at this Championships across owners, grooms and family alike have definitely helped the success of the team.”

In the individual competition Ireland’s Bertram Allen on Molly Malone managed to secure the individual silver in an three-way jump off to decide the podium places. Laura managed to move up the order to finish the best of the British individuals in fourth.

    Young riders

The British young riders team, consisting of Spencer Roe on Wonder Why, Chloe Aston on Quiet Easy 4, Abbe Burchmore-Eames on Wilandri E and Pippa Allen on Cupido Z, just missed out on a team medal finishing 1 penalty behind Belgium in 4th place.

Chloe, 18, helped to make up for this on Sunday (21 July) by managing to secure individual bronze. She finished behind Frank Schuttert from the Netherlands, who took gold, and Martin Fuchs from Switzerland.

The childrens team finished 6th with Robert Murphy the best on the individuals in 4th.
