Shake up on Swiss Olympic showjumping team

  • There has been an 11th hour shake up of the Swiss Olympic showjumping team, with reserve Paul Estermann promoted to the team.

The Swiss Federation confirmed that Paul would be joining the team in London, alongside Steve Guerdat, Werner Muff and Pius Schiwizer.

Meaning Clarissa Crotta – who was originally on the team – is now reserve.

Paul was put on the team due to his “extraordinary” recent achievements. He performed well on Nations Cup teams in Aachen and Rotterdam with his 10-year-old ride, Castlefield Eclipse, said the Swiss Federation.

“The decision is purely [of a] sporting nature,” said chef d’equipe Urs Gr ¼nig. “Paul will be a valuable contribution to the team in London.

“For Clarissa this change is of course a disappointment. We are very grateful that she is fully supportive of the team and is with us in London, as reserve.”

The Swiss team will now be:
    Paul Estermann with Castlefield Eclipse
Steve Guerdat with Nino des Buisssonnets
    Werner Muff with Kiamon
Pius Schwizer with Carlina or Verdi
Reserve: Clarissa Crotta with West Side van Meerputhoeve
