Rotterdam Super League

  • Britain has won the fourth round of the Samsung Super League with FEI Series in Rotterdam this afternoon to claim their second victory of the 2007 season.

The British show jumping squad of Michael, John and Ellen Whitaker plus David McPherson led from start to finish, with such strong performances that John did not need to jump in the second round to secure victory. This was the first time a British team have won the Rotterdam Nations Cup since 1986, when remarkably John and Michael Whitaker were also competing.

John Whitaker said: “The course was extremely technical and David McPherson’s performance was brilliant, especially bearing in mind they are a relatively new combination. It’s great to have Ellen back on board, and on such good form at her first Super League of the season.”

Britain moves up three places on the Samsung Super League leader board into second place behind Germany with 21 points.

British team manager, Derek Ricketts, said: “It was a difficult course, but the British horses and riders jumped extremely well.”
