Ludger Beerbaum out of London 2012 Olympic Games

  • The German showjumping team will have to do without one of its star combinations at Greenwich, after Ludger Beerbaum ruled himself and top horse Gotha FRH out of selection.

The pair were part of the German team that grabbed maximum points in the fourth leg of the FEI Nations Cup 2012 series at Rotterdam last month.

But after racking up 15 faults in the first class at Aachen on Tuesday, Ludger decided that he would ride his mare Gotha FRH only in the smaller classes during this week’s show.

“The mare is simply not in shape”, he said. “Therefore, I am no longer available for participation at the Olympic Games.”
