Welsh B is Olympia Mountain & Moorland Champion

  • Britain’s finest native ponies were on show in the main arena at Olympia today for the NPS/ Baileys Horse Feeds M&M Championships. A total of 35 ponies qualified to contest the coveted Champion Ridden Mountain and Moorland Pony of 2006 title, but in the end it was Pittybeck Prince Charming, a Welsh section B, who caught the judges’ eye. Fell pony Townend Hamish took the runner-up prize.

The 35 competitors had been selected at qualifying competitions across Britain this summer. Judges Mrs C M Nelson (riding) and Miss P Rennie (Conformation) observed the ponies at length this morning before announcing their final decision in front of a packed auditorium this afternoon.

Pittybeck Prince Charming, who qualified at NPS Area 5 show, is owned by Mrs G Ashington who won the Transfy Trophy for breeder of the champion. His rider Katy Carter was presented with the Gordon Winter Memorial Perpetual Trophy for being the rider of the champion.

Townend Hamish is owned by Mrs S Peet and ridden by Amie Houghton.
