Pony racing season got underway at Towcester racecourse

  • THE 2009 Charles Owen Pony Racing Series started this month, with the first fixture at Towcester racecourse last Sunday, 12 April.

There will be over 100 fixtures at point-to-points and racecourses in 2009.

Points will be accumulated at races, with the top 15 jockeys and horses qualifying to compete at the finals at Cheltenham racecourse on Saturday, 17 October.

The rapidly growing sport is aimed at 11- to 15-year-olds to encourage more youngsters into racing.

Recent pony racing graduates include Rhys Flint, Felix de Giles and Hadden Frost, who are all making a name for themselves in the sport.
