Frankel and Canford Cliffs go head-to-head at Goodwood

  • Racing fans are gearing up for what’s being billed as the race of the century.

The Group One Sussex Stakes — aka the “Duel on the Downs” — will be staged at Goodwood at 3.10pm today (27 July) when the world’s top two-milers, Frankel (pictured) and Canford Cliffs, will do battle. Hype surrounding the race has boosted ticket sales by 20%.

Frankel, trained by Sir Henry Cecil, is the world’s top-rated three-year-old and remains unbeaten after seven starts.

Canford Cliffs, a year older and winner of five Group Ones, took this race last year.
