Fifteen-time champion jump jockey AP McCoy has been crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2010. He is the first jockey to ever win the prestigious title.
He joins three other equestrians who have previously won the award — David Broome in 1960, Princess Anne in 1971 and Zara Phillips in 2006. Just two jockeys have made the roll of honour — AP (2002) and Frankie Dettori (1996), who both came third.
AP McCoy was favourite to win the award, which is voted for by the public, after finally winning the Grand National on Don’t Push It earlier this year. He received over 40% of the votes.
Darts player Phil Taylor was runner-up, with heptathlete Jessica Ennis in third place.
