A DVD introducing “horse agility” — a sport based on dog agility with horses working loose over a course of obstacles — has been launched.
“Horse Agility: A step by step introduction to the sport” is presented by the sport’s founder Vanessa Bee and directed by upcoming film maker Michael Brookham.
“The month of July was blocked out, the horses trained, the obstacles built and then it started to rain, and rain and rain. But we did it!” said Vanessa.
The film discusses how to get the horse’s attention before starting training, the approach of the handler and how to change the attitude of the horse.
Vanessa gives ideas for making safe obstacles and how to negotiate them, as well as outlining the competitive levels and explaining how to organise a competition.
Horse agility was founded in 2010, with the aim of stenghtening the bond between horses and their handlers without gadgets of quick fixes. The club now has over 400 members in the UK with overseas membership growing.
The DVD costs £18.95 and runs for 95 minutes.
