WE spend a lot of time and money making sure our horses are in top condition — physios, back men and gait analysts are now on many owners’ list of monthly outgoings. But what about the rider? When we heard that the pros were using new back mobility products to improve their performance, we needed to find out more.
The Cyclo-ssage Pro Personal system
THIS full body massage system consists of seven programmable oscillating massage units plus an infra-red treatment, said to help aid recovery from many riding injuries. The portable system can be used “on the move” or at home. It has medical approval and is said to be effective for muscular and circulatory problems, helping to alleviate many secondary symptoms associated with back and joint trauma and general aches and pains.
Who uses it?
EVENT rider Sam Jennings has felt the benefits of the system.
“It loosens you up, and is perfect if you suffer from aches and pains, or stiffness,” Sam says.
“Riders put their bodies under such strain — it is all very well ensuring your horse is 100% right, but if your body isn’t in similar condition, you can’t expect to achieve positive results.”
Where can I get one?
THE Cyclo-ssage Pro Personal system costs around £1,899.

The Mobiliser
THIS spinal mobilisation system applies localised pressure to the muscles either side of the spine, while also applying a bending force to the vertebrae. The portable, medical-grade device, is said to improve circulation, restore movement to stiff joints and curb back pain and poor posture.
Who uses it?
YOUNG event rider Ginny Howe says: “The day after eventing, I used to ache all over, but now I don’t get stiff at all.
“The first time I used the Mobiliser on the morning of a competition, I felt a real change in my dressage; I was much more loose and relaxed. Since using the machine, I have noticed a significant change in my shoulders and upper back; I’m generally more relaxed with fewer aches and pains. I also used to get cramp in my calf, and I believe the Mobiliser has helped resolve this.”
Where can I get one?
Outright purchase is £2,495.
