What the organisers say
Nunney is always voted a friendly event with a great atmosphere. There is a popular owners’ tent for owners and riders, providing coffee, lunch and tea and a variety of tradestands around the main arena for shopping opportunities.
The title sponsor for 2015 is Hopkins Concrete, who won the annual draw.
The cross-country course-designer, Adrian Ditcham, will be making changes this year. The courses, built by Willis Bros, are generally good galloping tracks, providing a fair test at each level. They run across deceptively undulating permanent pasture, which will be agri-vated if necessary, so horses do need to be fit. There are drops, ditches, water and a few technical fences, some of which will have black flag alternatives.
The dressage is sited away from the main arena and cross-country courses. All classes showjump in the main arena on flat, well-drained grass in front of Southfield House.
What the riders say
Dressage & showjumping — “The dressage was on a slight slope, but was nicely tucked away, giving a quiet atmosphere. Unfortunately it was a very hot day and the horseflies caused a major problem.” “I felt that the secretaries’ focus was mainly on the international competitors as they did not know when the under-18 course-walk was going to be held.” “The showjumping arena was lovely and surrounded by tradestands with many seats for spectators.” “There was also plenty of room in the warm-up.”
Cross-country — “The course was a fair test at the level, but unfortunately I was unable to run due to the abandonment.” “The ground had been aerated, but it was very dry with cracks.” “Suitable for more experienced combinations.”
