Young eventer Emily King recovering from a broken pelvis

  • Young Devon-based eventer Emily King is recovering from a fall in which she broke her pelvis.

The 14-year-old, who is the daughter of Mary King, was schooling on 5 April when six-year-old Every’s King spooked then reared.

“Next think I remember was being in the air ambulance,” Emily told H&H.

Initially doctors thought Emily was just badly bruised and Mary says she “hobbled around the house for two weeks”.

But a further week of investigations, including an MRI scan showed buckle fractures to her pelvis, a coccyx fracture and a trapped nerve.

“I’m not sure when I will be able to ride again at the moment. I’ve got a check-up in two weeks and then another in three,” said Emily.

“It’s quite annoying as I’ve a lovely new horse — Mr HiHo — and I’d wanted to get out there with him. But both horses have had to be turned out for a little holiday.”
