William Funnell dazzles in Monte Carlo GCT

  • Aachen grand prix winner Nick Skelton wasn’t the only British showjumper in the prize money at the weekend — over in Monaco William Funnell finished second in the Longines Global Champions Tour (GCT).

William and Billy Congo continued their dazzling run of form taking the runner-up spot in the Longines grand prix of Monte Carlo — their second podium finish on the trot.

This result came on the back of second place in the Cannes GCT a fortnight earlier and fourth in London at the start of the month.

“He’s been jumping great,” said William.

On Saturday (29 June) in a bid for a quick round Billy Congo knocked a pole — his first mistake in nine rounds of GCT jumping this month.

American rider Richard Spooner and Cristallo were left prime spot after the pair jumped a clear, pocketing the €94,050 first prize.
