William Fox-Pitt is the new world number one eventer in the HSBC rankings released today (1 September), taking over from Mary King following the FEI European Championships in Luhmühlen last weekend.
With Mary failing to finish following a fall on the cross-country, William now has a slender lead of seven points going into second last leg of the HSBC FEI Classics series at Burghley starting today (1 September).
The other big mover following the Europeans is newly-crowned individual champion Michael Jung, who has jumped to fifth from ninth behind Andrew Nicholson and Piggy French in third and fourth respectively.
With Parklane Hawk, who is in the lead with 39.7 at the lunch break on day one, and Neuf Des Coeurs entered at Burghley, William will be keen to stay at the top of the rankings to claim the $50,000 prize with only Pau (12-16 October) left in the series.
