Four things you didn’t know…
Hunt Ball provided a first Cheltenham Festival winner for jockey Nick Scholfield, 23, and for trainer Keiran Burke, 26. Former jockey Keiran, who rode Holmwood Legend to victory at the 2011 Festival, took out a trainer’s licence last year after rupturing his spleen when kicked by a horse.
He won his race at Cheltenham by eight lengths ahead of White Star Line and his rating rose from 69 to 157 in three months.
In the excitement of Hunt Ball’s win at Wincanton in January, owner Anthony was fined £100 for jumping on to the horse and riding him into the winner’s enclosure.
There was a “Hunt Ball” raceday at Fontwell last Friday (9 November), sponsored by Paddy Power, to celebrate the horse’s success.
