Wayne Rooney celebrates first win as racehorse owner

  • England footballer Wayne Rooney celebrated his first success as a racehorse owner, when Yourartisonfire won at Haydock yesterday (Thursday 5 July).

Wayne, who owns the two-year-old chestnut colt with wife Coleen, footballer John O’Shea and Chris Patten, was over in Los Angeles, so missed the win.

Yourartisonfire, by Dutch Art, won the 6f maiden stakes and could be aimed at Glorious Goodwood. He is trained by Elaine Burke in Middleham, North Yorkshire.

The Rooneys own several horses after being persuaded to try out the sport by Wayne’s teammate Michael Owen.

His other three – Pippy, Switcharooney and Tomway – are trained by Tom Dascombe at Michael Owen’s Manor House Stables in Cheshire.

It was Yourartisonfire’s second run, after the colt finished fourth from 14 at Nottingham last month on his debut.

He was sent off 6-4 favourite under jockey Michael Metcalfe.
