VetCell offers stem cell treatment to sport horses

  • Stem cell treatment specialist VetCell Bioscience Ltd hopes to offer its pioneering treatment to sports horses after having been bought by Quy Bioscience.

VetCell was the company responsible for the treatment that allowed hunter chaser Dream Alliance to return to the track two years after suffering severe tendon damage in the 2008 Grand National.

Dream Alliance went on to win the Welsh National in December 2009 and run in this year’s Grand National.

A spokesman for VetCell said: “We are keen to offer this treatment to a much wider range of equine athletes, especially eventers, showjumpers and dressage horses and are looking to expand our business across the world.”

VetCell was formed in 2005 in partnership with the Royal Veterinary College and the Institute for Orthopaedic and Musculoskeletal Science to develop the veterinary use of stem cell technology.
