Two Shetland ponies shot dead in a field in Shropshire

  • Two Shetland ponies were shot dead in a field in Shropshire at the weekend.

The ponies were killed between 3pm on Saturday 3 May and 7am on Sunday 4 May in a field on Edgeley Road, Whitchurch.

The ponies, named Bill and Ben, belonged to Edgeley House and Court care home and had lived in the care home’s paddocks for about 12 years as pets of the 60 residents.

Home manager Liz Jones told H&H: “We are all very sad and really shocked by what has happened. The mood in the home is very morose.”

Two youths aged 14 and 17 appeared before Telford magistrates yesterday on charges of possession of firearms, criminal damages and cruelty to animals.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone police on 08457 444888.”
