Tough winter ahead for horses, warns World Horse Welfare

  • World Horse Welfare estimates there are 6,000 horses currently at risk in England and Wales as we head into the worst of the winter.

This worrying fact, and the associated work the charity has been undertaking with other charities, are among the topics covered in the charity’s annual Christmas video message.

Roly Owers, Chief Executive of World Horse Welfare, also encourages those who can offer a good home to a rescued horse to do so now, to free up spaces and enable even more neglected horses to get the care they urgently need.

The video also illustrates other welfare challenges that horses have faced these last 12 months, including the growing threat to UK horses from disease, and the charity’s ongoing battle to put an end to the long distant transportation of horses across Europe to slaughter.
