Top SJ string for Wingrave

  • Young show jumper Jamie Wingrave has been handed the career opportunity of a lifetime by leading owner Michael Bullman, who has asked him to take over as stable jockey of his Hungarian operation, following the tragic death last month of Joe Turi.

It is a dream break for 22-year-old Jamie, who has been endeavouring to further his career after winning the individual silver medal at the young rider European Championships last year. He is also a member of the WCPP Potential squad.

Jamie, who has been competing Michael Bullman’s young stallion Eternally in this country, will now move to Hungary, where Joe had developed luxurious state-of-the-art facilities.

Jamie will ride the six horses there, including Nightlife, winner of the King’s Cup in Madrid and the Eastern European World Cup league, plus those owned by Joe’s other major backer, a leading Hungarian owner who has 100 horses.

“It’s an amazing opportunity and an honour,” says Jamie. “No one can fill Joe’s boots, and it would be a mistake for me to try, but I’m going to do my best to make Michael proud.”

“Jamie is a good ambassador for the sport and he rides well. Eastern Europe is an excellent training ground and I feel we have a good chance of turning him into a world-class rider,” says Michael, who will continue to mastermind the operations in Hungary.
