Stud in quarantine after EVA outbreak in Ireland

  • A stud in Co Mayo Ireland is under quarantine restrictions after a stallion tested positive for the venereal disease equine viral arteritis (EVA).

The stallion was imported to Ireland in October 2009 but subsequently found to have no history of vaccination for EVA.

In March the stallion tested positive for EVA. Eight mares have also tested positive for the virus after contact with the horse.

The Irish Department of Agriculture is investigating the case.
