Racing’s top names are expected to attend a memorial service for popular trainer Sir Henry Cecil today (Monday 16 September).
The 10-times champion trainer died aged 70 on 11 June. He had been suffering from stomach cancer since 2006.
Sir Henry was a much-loved figure in Newmarket and jockeys, owners, trainers and family will be attending today’s service at Ely Cathedral.
During his career Sir Henry saddled 25 British Classic winners including four in the Derby. He also had a record 75 winners at Royal Ascot and enjoyed much success in recent years with the unbeaten Frankel.
In 2011 Sir Henry was knighted in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
