Shetland pony destroyed in Norfolk after savage dog attack

  • A pony has been put down in Norfolk after being savaged by two dogs.

Norfolk police were called to the incident at Three Score in Bowthorpe at 1pm on Sunday, 8 August. The attack took place in the field where the pony was being kept.

Two Staffordshire bull terriers tore the pony’s face so badly that it had to be euthanased.

Norfolk police confirmed to H&H that the pony was destroyed, but said no further action is being taken because the matter is being resolved between “the two parties”.

A spokesman for the constabulary said: “The owner of the dogs came forward, and no criminal action is being taken because the matter is being sorted among the owners of the dogs and the owner of the horse.”

He declined to comment on whether the dogs would be recorded as a danger.

Local newspaper reports suggest the dogs were being walked by their male owner at the time of the attack, and that the Shetland pony belonged to a young girl.
