No taxi? Scot steals horse to get home

  • It’s no fun wandering around looking for a taxi after a night out. So one Scot thought he’d had an inspired idea — getting home on horseback.

However, after stealing a horse from a nearby farm in Clackmannanshire, central Scotland, 25-year-old Ronald Temprell was arrested.

Temprell took the horse from Tulliallan Farms, near Alloa, 2.5miles from his home on 11 May.

But at around 2.10am, the noise of hooves on the road woke neighbours, who called the police.

“I had been drinking and it did seem funny,” he told The Daily Record.

“I wanted to get home, but I’m not going to bump into a taxi, so we were walking and came across the horses.

“As I knew about how to get the stuff on, I just started to saddle it up. It took me about an hour and a half. I could probably do it faster when I’m sober.

“People used to call me Rocket Ronnie but they are calling me Frankie Dettori now.”

Temprell was given a one-year community payback order at Alloa Sheriff court on 5 September and a review hearing will be held in January.
