Riders can now enjoy taking their horses across the channel to explore northern France “. . . on Horseback”
The British Horse Society (BHS) has joined forces with French authorities to produce “Kent and Pas de Calais on Horseback” – the latest book in the society’s “. . . on Horseback” series.
The first book in the series to contain information on places to ride outside the UK, it includes 15 Kent-based routes, plus 20 rides in northern France. All routes are suitable for walkers and off-road cyclists, as well as horse riders.
Suggested routes in Kent vary in length from six to 100 miles and each is accompanied by a map and a description of the points of interest, plus information on parking for horseboxes, where to eat and where to stay overnight. The routes follow bridleways and byways with some sections of minor roads.
The French section of the book has a substantial list of contacts and extensive details from Accueil Equestre – official lists of accommodation for horse and rider. It also contains useful information on taking your horse abroad, giving helpful hints on the paperwork required.
Kent & Pas de Calais on Horseback costs £5.95, plus 90p postage and packing. It is available from the BHS Bookshop (tel: 08701 201918).
