Rescued pony Spud put down after bout of colic

  • Spud, a pony adopted by Bransby Home of Rest for Horses, has been put to sleep following several bouts of colic caused by internal tumours.

Spud and his stable-mate Carrot arrived at Bransby in September 2009 after users on the H&H forum raised the alert to the Royal Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals about two very thin horses in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Last week, H&H promoted the new book Hovis’ Friday Diary — From the Beginning, which was published to raise funds for Spud and Carrot.

“Spud was a much-loved character and will be sadly missed by all of his horsey pals, especially his long-term best friend Carrot, as well as the staff and his supporters,” said a Bransby spokesman. “A big thank you goes out to all those who helped in the rescue and continued support.
