Racehorse dies of heart attack on gallops and crushes rider


  • Michelle Bentham, a work rider with racehorse trainer Venetia Williams, is recovering following an accident on the gallops yesterday (Thursday, 30 October).

    Ms Bentham was riding Blencathra Bay when he collapsed and died of a suspected heart attack.

    The six-year-old hurdler, who won at Uttoxeter last season, fell to the floor before rolling over Ms Bentham.

    The rider was taken to Hereford Hospital with injuries to her ribs, back, shoulder and lung but has been allowed to return home. She will be off work for several weeks.
