Przewalski’s horses to return to native western China

  • An international team is preparing to release captive-bred Przewalski’s horses back to their native habitat in western China.

Specialists from the US, Germany and the Netherlands are involved in the release of the horses back into the wild where they finally disappeared due to poaching in 1986.

The Przewalski’s horse is the oldest existing horse breed. Only 1,000 now exist across the world.
