£20,000 of tack is stolen in raid on Hampshire yard

  • A Hampshire livery yard has had an estimated £20,000 worth of tack stolen.

The yard, near Hook, believes the theft of 10 girths and stud guards, nine saddles and 15 bridles happened in the early hours of Friday, 12 August.

All the items, which are mainly Prestige, Stubben and John Whitaker brands, have serial numbers.

Yard owner Louise Sillett, mother of 13-year-old Jordan Marshall who is on the British children on horses squad, said: “They took a gate off the hinges a short distance away and came across the fields to get to us.

“After ransacking the tack room they used wheelbarrows to cart tack back to their vehicles.

“What is more we had two kittens sleeping in the tack room and one of them is now missing.

“This is all specialist tack for our competition horses and although our friends have been wonderful lending us tack, it is not the same.

“Jordan was hoping to compete at Barbizon in France but we’ve had to cancel that now.”
