  • A new training aid has been added to the Oliver Townend equestrian collection.

The Townend Collection has been created with top eventer Oliver Townend and Hills Wholesale and was launched at Burghley last year.

The latest addition — the Townend Training System — is a lungeing device.

Different levels are achieved by the positioning of the line that runs from the elastic tensioner through the bit.

In the novice, or level 1, position the line is put through the horses bit and between the front legs and reattached to the girth.

And the intensity can be increased up to level 4 position, for horses established at advanced level, where the end clip is crossed over the horses withers and attached to the opposite side of the roller.

“An ideal time saver when daylight and time is tight this winter, this training aid allows you to work your horse properly from the ground and help your horse to find his own natural balance and rhythm,” said a spokesman for the company.

“At the same time it helps to engage the hindquarters, lightening the forehand and encouraging the horse to develop self-carriage.”

The Townend Training System comes with full clear pictorial instructions and costs £65.

Other items in the range include a bridle, stirrup leathers, leather head collar and five-point breastplate and Townend Ultra Grip reins.
