Stuck for something to do this weekend?
Newbury racecourse will be celebrating the horse tomorrow (Saturday 3 March) at its second annual equestrian raceday.
The aim of the day is to combine the worlds of equestrian and racing in a “Celebration of the Horse” themed day – which will also be raising money for the racehorse rehabilitation charity Greatwood.
As well as seven races there will be equestrian activities and demonstrations. Demos start from 11.45am and will include a display from The Side Saddle Association Ladies, consisting of Ginny Oakley, Beth Robertson, Sarah Hislam and Felicity Bowman.
Charlotte Dicker and Anna Pearce, both 13 years old, will be showing off their vaulting skills while there will also be a farrier demonstration and a cross-country fence display from Barbury International Horse Trials.
To get into the action things, racegoers can visit the “interactive riding zone” featuring a Wii Jockey Game, Equisiser (mechanical horse), and RoboCob the riding simulator.
Racegoers will also get the chance to go behind the scenes before racing and visit the weighing room and the judges box. And racing fans can meet the stars of the show at a jockeys autography signing in the afternoon.
Tickets start from £16 and under 18s are free.
