New scheme for rehoming veterans

  • The Veteran Horse Society is “inundated” with calls about its new service to rehome veteran horses

A new scheme to rehome horses and ponies over the age of 15 has already placed five horses and is attracting a large number of inquiries.

The Veteran Horse Society says the scheme came about almost by accident after it started receiving requests from its members for help.

Now the service is officially open to the public – although horses are only rehomed with members.

Director of the Warwickshire-based society, Julianne Aston, said: ” We do not have facilities here to keep horses but we act as a link for those who have a horse to rehome and those who want one.”

The society says it asks for a minimum donation of £50 from both parties.

” The new homes are checked out by one of our co-ordinators and we are very wary of people who might want horses for the wrong reasons.”
