A double-layered small-holed haynet, that limits the amount of hay a horse or pony can eat, is to be launched by Parell Products.
County Durham-based rider Ellie Parkin, 25, came up with the idea for Elim-a-Net (pictured right) after years double-netting hay for her show hunter pony Will, to stop him eating too much forage.
She said: “He really was a very greedy boy and double netting is such a chore.
“Elim-a-net is a two-in-one net with an extra strand that divides each of the diamonds of the haynet, cutting down the amount of forage a horse can snatch and the time it takes to empty the net.”
With help from Business Link and the North East England Investment Centre (NEEIC) she created a prototype of the net, which won the innovation award at the 2009 British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) International trade show in February.
And from Monday 23 November the Elim-a-Net will be sold on-line at www.parellproducts.com.
The net comes in pony, cob and horse size and a choice of blue, green or red.
It retails from £8.99 to £10.99 depending on the size.
