Mare and foal hit by a car

  • A mare and her foal have been involved in a collision with a car in Bolton.

The two horses escaped onto the road near parkland in Farnworth in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday 8 October) and were knocked over by a car.

It has been reported that the mare badly fractured her leg in the collision.

“One of the horses has been put down and the other one is OK and I believe has been returned to its owner,” a spokesman from Greater Manchester police confirmed.

The driver was not injured in the incident and the road has now been reopened.

The police are not sure at this stage how the horses had managed to escape onto the road. Nobody has been arrested and the collision is being treated by police as an accident.
