Man arrested for slitting horses’ throats

  • A man had been charged with killing 6 prize-winning miniature horses near Adelaide, Australia last month (21 December).

The 2 colts and 4 fillies were found dead in their stables by staff with their throats slit. 3 other miniatures were left unharmed.

mini1A 50-year-old man was arrested on 27 December and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass, property damage and ill-treatment of animals.

The arrested man was bailed and is due to appear in the Victor Harbor Magistrates Court in March.

A statement from owners Julie and Mel Jackson on their Facebook page said that they were “disappointed” that the suspect had been bailed.

mini3“We want the monster who committed this heinous crime to face court and to receive the maximum penalty the justice system can provide,” the statement said.

“We need to hear what possible reason he could have for carrying out this horrendous act.”

Police are continuing to investigate, but it is believed that it was a targeted rather than a random attack.
