Could London’s O2 arena host the World Cup showjumping and dressage finals?

  • Britain is bidding to host the 2017 Longines FEI World Cup showjumping and dressage finals.

The British bid proposes using the O2 arena in London as the venue for the joint final.

The O2 is a venue for concerts and sporting events — and hosted gymnastics, basketball and wheelchair basketball during London 2012.

Three other cities have put in bids to host the 2017 FEI World Cup finals. They are Omaha, Nebraska (USA, showjumping and dressage), Hong Kong (showjumping only) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (Netherlands; dressage only).

British Equestrian Federation (BEF) chief executive Andrew Finding said bringing the two prestigious finals to the O2 would be a “fantastic opportunity for the British public to see high-level equestrian sport in an iconic British venue”.

The FEI will make a final decision in June 2014.
