German showjumper injured in repeat fall

  • German showjumper Katrin Eckermann looks set to be on the sidelines for a few weeks after breaking her collarbone in a fall at Aachen.

The 24-year-old fell during the grand prix (Sunday 20 July) from Firth of Lorne while jumping the open water.

The horse, who trotted away from the fall lame, was checked by a vet and is reported to have no serious injuries.

Two days before (Friday 18 July), during the Nations Cup, the pair fell at the same fence — but on that occasion both escaped injury (see below).

“She still has a lot of pain, but overall was lucky,” co-national coach Heinrich Hermann Engemann told German press.

On Thursday (17 July) the German rider had taken a home win at the show in the Preis von Nordrhein-Westfalen with Carlson.
