Joanne Eccles proves to be unbeatable in Aachen

  • Britain’s Joanne Eccles won the individual class at Aachen for the third year running at the weekend with a typically stylish performance.

The world champion, vaulting on her top horse WH Bentley, finished on 8.206, ahead of Pia Engelberty (Germany) on 7.929 and Mary McCormick (USA) on 7.901.

Fellow brit Lucy Phillips finished in sixth, scoring a personal best in the freestyle round to end on a total of 7.774

Hannah Eccles also performed well to finish on 7.605

In the male class George Cox produced his best freestyle score to date, finishing in 17th in a strong field.

Joanne and Hannah Eccles also finished a close second in the pas de deux class, while Team GB finished sixth in the Nations Cup.

With the European Championships in Le Mans just under four weeks away, chef d’equipe Lucy Bell said: “Everyone did a great job but all have little things to work on to get even better scores in Le Mans.”
