Jade South killed in riding accident at Pony Club rally

  • An investigation has been launched into the death of 15-year-old Pony Club member Jade South at a rally yesterday (30 October).

Jade, of Lynton, Ross-on-Wye, was crushed by her 16hh horse Oz in a rotational fall at a South Herefordshire and Ross Harriers Pony Club Rally, held at Pauntley Court Farm cross country course in Gloucestershire.

She was wearing a body protector and hat in line with Pony Club rules. Oz was unharmed.

Two ambulances and the air ambulance were called to the scene but Jade’s life could not be saved.

The accident is under investigation by police and the health and safety executive.

A Pony Club spokesman said Jade had been a long-standing member of the branch.

Pony Club chairman Cherry Michell said: “On behalf of everyone in The Pony Club, I would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Jade’s family.

“The thoughts and prayers of Pony Club Members all over the UK are with the family at this very sad time.”
