The International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) will be holding a special rehoming day for companion horses and ponies on 21 April.
Three of the charity’s centres — at Norfolk, Blackpool and Aberdeenshire — will open their doors, allowing potential borrowers to meet companions and find out more about the re-homing process.
The ILPH’s Tony Tyler said: “While it is relatively easy to find good homes for the ridden horses and ponies, non-ridden companions are rather more difficult to rehome.”
An ILPH spokesman told H&H that the charity is anticipating an increasing demand on its services now that the Animal Welfare Act has come into force.
